How Lectura AI collects, uses, and protects your personal information.

Last Updated: July 25, 2026

1. INTRODUCTION#

This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how Lectura AI Inc. ("Lectura AI", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares your personal information when you access or use our AI-powered academic study platform, tools, and related services (collectively, the "Service").

By creating an account or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy and agree to the collection and use of your information as described herein. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the Service.

This Policy applies to all users of Lectura AI, including students, educators, and institutional administrators. It does not apply to third-party websites or services linked from within our platform.

2. INFORMATION WE COLLECT#

2.1# Account Information. When you register for an account, we collect your name, email address, password (hashed), institution or organization affiliation, and any profile details you choose to provide.

2.2# Content You Upload. Lectura AI processes documents, PDFs, lecture notes, images, audio, and other academic materials you upload ("User Content") to power AI features such as summarization, flashcard generation, and study tools. This content is processed on your behalf and is not used to train our models without your explicit consent.

2.3# Usage Data. We automatically collect information about how you interact with the Service, including pages viewed, features used, study sessions completed, time spent, query types, and interaction events. This data helps us improve product quality and personalize your experience.

2.4# Device & Technical Information. We collect your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device identifiers, referral URLs, and crash data to ensure platform stability and security.

2.5# Payment Information. Subscription payments are processed through Stripe. We do not store your full payment card details — Stripe manages card data under their own PCI-compliant infrastructure. We receive and store billing email, last-4 card digits, subscription tier, and transaction history for account management purposes.

2.6# Communications. If you contact us via email or support channels, we retain your messages and any information you share to respond to your inquiry and improve our support quality.

2.7# Cookies & Tracking. We use first-party cookies and similar technologies to maintain sessions, store preferences, and understand aggregate usage patterns. You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect some Service functionality.

3. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION#

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide, operate, and improve the Lectura AI Service and its features.
  • To personalize your study experience, including recommending tools and generating study materials.
  • To process subscriptions, manage billing, and communicate plan-related information.
  • To send transactional messages (e.g., account verification, password resets, billing receipts).
  • To send product updates, feature announcements, and educational content where you have opted in.
  • To analyze platform usage in aggregate to improve reliability, performance, and user experience.
  • To enforce our Terms of Service and Refund Policy and investigate violations or misuse.
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations and respond to lawful government requests.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your uploaded academic content for advertising purposes.

Where applicable under laws such as the GDPR, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance: Processing necessary to provide the Service you have subscribed to.
  • Legitimate interests: Analytics, security, fraud prevention, and product improvement — balanced against your rights.
  • Legal obligation: Compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.
  • Consent: Where you have explicitly opted in, such as marketing communications or optional data sharing.

5. SHARING AND DISCLOSURE#

5.1# Service Providers. We share your information with trusted third-party vendors who help operate the Service, including cloud hosting providers (e.g., AWS, Vercel), AI inference providers, payment processors (Stripe), analytics tools, and customer support platforms. These vendors are contractually bound to protect your data and may only use it for the purposes we specify.

5.2# AI Processing. Your User Content may be transmitted to AI model providers (such as OpenAI or Anthropic) solely to generate responses on your behalf. We configure these providers to opt out of using your content for model training where such options are available. You can review the AI model provider policies in our documentation.

5.3# Legal Requirements. We may disclose your information where required by law, court order, or government authority, or where we reasonably believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Lectura AI, our users, or the public.

5.4# Business Transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred. We will notify you via email or prominent in-app notice before your personal information is transferred under materially different terms.

5.5# No Sale of Data. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing or commercial purposes.

6. DATA RETENTION#

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you cancel your subscription or delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within 90 days, except where retention is required by law, contractual obligation, or our legitimate interests (e.g., fraud prevention, billing records).

Uploaded User Content is retained while your account is active. Upon account deletion, User Content is removed from active storage. Aggregate or de-identified usage data derived from your sessions may be retained for analytical purposes.

7. YOUR RIGHTS & CHOICES#

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements.
  • Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Objection / Restriction: Object to or request restriction of certain processing activities.
  • Withdraw Consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time without affecting prior lawful processing.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@lecturaai.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.

8. SECURITY#

We implement commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include encrypted data transmission (TLS), access controls, regular security reviews, and industry-standard authentication practices.

No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at support@lecturaai.com.

9. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY#

The Service is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information without parental consent, we will promptly delete such data. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has submitted data, please contact us at privacy@lecturaai.com.

10. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFERS#

Lectura AI operates from Canada and may transfer your data to servers and service providers located in the United States, European Union, or other countries. Where data is transferred internationally, we take appropriate steps to ensure adequate protection consistent with applicable law, including using Standard Contractual Clauses where required by GDPR.

11. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY#

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. We will provide notice of material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by sending an in-app notification or email.

Your continued use of the Service following any change constitutes your acceptance of the updated Policy. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
